The Xena Project offers a variety of counseling services, including peer counseling groups that will formally launch in the summer of 2015 (please check back soon for an official date).
Our peer counseling team is currently pursuing certification in Care and Counsel for Combat Trauma through the American Association of Christian Counselors, facilitated by the PTSD Foundation of America. Counselors include:
Keith Shultis, United States Marine Corps, Retired
Keith “KC” Shultis is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Commissioned in 1980 from the United States Naval Academy, Lt. Col. Shultis served around the world as an F/A-18 fighter pilot, earning his wings first as a Radar Intercept Officer, then a second set as a Pilot. He deployed many times, including a combat tour during the Persian Gulf War. He also holds a Masters of Science in Military Studies.
Dave Phillippi, United States Marine Corps, Retired
Lt. Col. Phillippi served around the world in a variety of capacities, including three combat tours in Iraq and two in Afghanistan. Phillipi was commissioned in 1994 from the United States Naval Academy, following several years of enlisted service. Full bio coming soon.
John Echoff, United States Marine Corps / Sheriff’s Force, Retired
John “Kraut” Echoff is a former Marine and Vietnam veteran. A native of Houston, upon completion of active duty he returned to the local area. He worked his way through the ranks in the Sheriff’s department, serving for 42 years on the Force, including many years as a first responder and several as an Academy instructor. A creative, inspiring individual, John has also acted as a ballroom dance instructor, Concealed Handgun License instructor, and the “face of the force” on Houston area crime stopper shows. His wish, he says, “is to leave this place, a better place than when I found it.”
Bill Hogan, United States Air Force, Retired
Bill “Hulk” Hogan is a veteran of the United States Air Force, and The Xena Project’s Chaplain. He is a command pilot with over 3,000 hours as an instructor/evaluator pilot in the B-1B, T-3, T-37, and T-38 aircraft. He retired from active duty in 2006 to pursue a calling to ministry and attended Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, earning a Master’s of Divinity degree. “Hulk” is currently the Pastor of Celebrate and Community at WordServe Church in Fulshear.
Jan Shultis, United States Navy
Jan Shultis is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Commissioned in 2006 from the United States Naval Academy, Jan was stationed around the country and in Afghanistan as a Public Affairs Officer. While in Afghanistan she served in detention operations, including work as a mission photographer and with the Rule of Law Field Force, as part of Combined Joint Task Force Operations 435.
All counselors are also available for individual or family meetings. In addition to peer-led efforts, Chaplain Bill Hogan is available for pastoral care. Licensed Social Worker Sherry Cardinal is also available for formal counseling.
